Full Resolution Manager Tips

There are two types of image files that are important to know about. TIFFs are high-quality images with very large files sizes. JPEGs (or JPGs, or JPEG2000) have much smaller file sizes, but they also have lower resolution and quality. For preservation and duplication purposes, your original images should always be scanned as TIFFs. Their file size is too large to be displayed online, however, so you also need to convert your images to JPEGs at some point.

You can either manage this conversion process on your own, or you use CONTENTdm's Full Resolution Manager to automate the process.

Full Resolution manager is required if you want to:

  1. Convert TIFF images to JPEG or JPEG2000 as part of the import process
  2. Generate OCR text from the images
  3. Automatically create PDF files for Compound Objects
  4. Link to the High Resolution (Archival) images via CDM

Full Resolution Manager is not required if you:

  1. Create JPEG or JPEG2000 images before import
  2. Do OCR with an external program (e.g., Omnipage)
  3. Don’t need PDF files or generate them separately

Full Resolution Settings that Matter

  1. Display Settings: This is where you determine the size of the image that will be viewed.
  2. Image Settings: This is where you determine Image Rights (Watermark/Banding), Image Processing (Sharpen/Blur) and the file format (GIF/JPEG/JPEG2000) along with JPEG quality.
  3. IMPORTANT!!! When you are done with the settings, click SAVE not CLOSE!!
