Follow-up Items
...from March 19 WHO board meeting
Dear Group,
Our next meeting is April 13, 9:30-11.
Cathy has asked me to send the attached documents,
Grantpossibilities - changed.xls,
Grantpossibilities1.xls
traininggrant.doc (This one is no longer current.) H. She presented a summary of the work of this group at the WHO board meeting yesterday. They are extremely supportive of the training project as a grant idea. They offered some suggestions, which I incorporated into the training grant outline. They wondered and worried about where we would find part-time people who could take on this work.
Cathy reworked the grant possibility chart I sent out. I’ve attached two files: one is most likely possibilities, the other is grants that might be worth studying as we fill out details on the training grant outline. The board had a number of other suggestions about granting agencies, which Cathy and I will follow up on and report on at our next meeting.
This group has two main tasks: writing a project proposal and writing the grant document that incorporates the proposal pieces. I’d like to suggest that we divide ourselves up into two mini-working groups so all of you aren’t stretched too thin trying to work on both of these. Does this seem reasonable to everyone? Cathy and I would be on one group each and coordinate between us. Please let me know your thoughts and your group preference for these two projects.
Our next task is to begin fleshing out the details of the training proposal. We will write our proposal then make a final selection of the granting agency to which we will apply. Please send me emails with your ideas and I will incorporate them into the document for review in April. They don’t need to be long messages or very detailed. I just want to be sure that we include all bits and pieces that we should have in the plan.
The Museum working group is planning to do a survey of historical societies and museums about the content management software they use; whether they have digitized any materials; whether they own the online web presentation module offered by PastPerfect, and, what their primary metadata fields are and whether they use Dublin Core mapping. The results of this survey will help our group plan training sessions and assist the Outreach group to identify new digital project participants. We haven’t selected a survey completion date yet, so that piece of our proposal will have to wait. I suspect we may have survey results and analysis done sometime in late May.
The Outreach working group, will become very important to us now. We expect to include them in some of our document exchanges. Future Directions and Outreach may begin having occasional meetings together as we flesh out our plan and learn the interests and capabilities of the Outreach group members. Cathy will be the liaison with them in the coming months.
Kirsten Houtman, of WiLS, will be our principal grant writer, and would like to form a mini-working group with any of you with grant writing or reviewing experience.
