About Wisconsin Heritage Online Project Resources

There are two areas of development in Wisconsin Heritage Online. The purpose of the statewide digital collaborative, Wisconsin Heritage Online, is to bring together (virtually) the digital content of Wisconsin cultural institutions to be easily accessible for all users. A secondary goal is to facilitate the creation of digital content by developing digitization assistance for interested institutions, by providing education and training opportunities. We have a search portal for the users of the virtual collection and a project resources wiki for contributers of the digital content.

Goals of the Wisconsin Heritage Online Search Portal

  • Content will be accessible from one place
  • Content will be adequately indexed
  • There will be more content because Wisconsin Heritage Online will have helped cultural institutions to digitize their collections.

The purpose of this WHO Project Resources web site is to share ideas and plans as we develop and to solicit comments and reactions from the community of cultural organizations. General information, best practices, guidelines, and information about copyright, preservation, and content management systems is posted and updated regularly.

Goals of the WHO Project Resources wiki

  • Promote use and development of Wisconsin guidelines and practices for digitization
  • Provide up-to-date information and educational opportunities for digital content providers
  • Encourage discussion and thoughtful continuing development of Wisconsin standards for digitization
  • Promote and encourage an active WHO member group, with appreciable advantages for WHO members.
