Museum Metadata in a Collaborative Environment: North Carolina ECHO and the North Carolina Museums Council Metadata Working Group

http://www.archimuse.com/mw2004/papers/wisser/wisser.html

This one might be a good paper to review. We know that eventually WHO will need to add EAD to the metadata mix for WHO participants. I think we haven't been ready but if the Museum Group decides this would resolve some of the problems perhaps the Metadata Working Group could take this up soon. BTW, The ECHO project is one that Wisconsin has been tracking closely.

Cross-domain searching of library, archive and museum metadata – some considerations. By Malcolm Polfreman, 4th March 2004.

This article appears to me to neatly lay out the problems our group has been discussing. Polfreman proposes four key stages to work through. Worth it for the Museum Group to do this?

I couldn't determine if any of these collections were museum collections, but some of the material could be museum type things.

These are from the same state collection of collections, a CONTENTdm collaborative project from Arizona Memory. There were many museum collections represented. I chose these because they represent artifacts.

I'd suggest using this as a guide while you are mapping your fields to the WHO Metadata Standards mandatory eight fields.
