Wisconsin Heritage Online Outreach Working Group
Paul Beck
Lori Belongia
CHARGE: The focus of the Outreach group will be on a deliberate effort to attend and present at cultural heritage institution conferences and conventions, with attention to collecting information about possible projects and matching of places and projects for collaboration. Members of this group are expected to visit cultural heritage institutions in their neighborhoods to provide information about WHO and digital projects. It would be great to have a variety of organization types distributed throughout the state on this group. They will collaborate with the Future Directions working group, the Museum working group and the WHO Project Manager in developing and using marketing materials.
WHO Outreach Working Group Meeting Minutes
March 7, 10:30-11:15
Attendees: Debbie Cardinal, Lori Belongia and Paul Beck
Proposed next meeting: April 4, Wednesday, 10:30-12?
The three of us discussed the different purposes of the Outreach group and the Education group. The Education group will prepare material such as search examples, and promotional materials about WHO for public users of Wisconsin digital materials. They will meet primarily by email, sharing the development and editing of documents and other materials. The Outreach group will present at conferences and local meetings about WHO, encouraging local historical societies and museums to begin digitizing materials and helping them locate necessary resources. Informal meetings and collaborative partnerships of cultural heritage institutions in the neighborhoods of the Outreach group members are encouraged! We need to have more institutions digitizing and cataloging their collections.
Lori, Rob Mader and Mary Adler will discuss whether one or more of them should transfer from the Outreach group to the Education group.
Lori had a question about the development of marketing materials for WHO. The Future Directions group last year developed a bookmark, a banner, and a brochure called WHY JOIN. These materials are intended for prospective contributors to Wisconsin digital collections. The Education group will develop public user promotional materials.
Debbie also demonstrated a newly harvested collection in the WHO portal, the Wisconsin Decorative Arts Database, a collection of historical society and museum artifacts from the Wisconsin decorative arts movement.
